Holiday season mood is already setting in & here we are to equip you for just that! If you’re planning to go to Thailand (which we think you totally should this Summer), here’s a checklist of food you need to try when you get there. And trust us, we’re not only on the non-vegetarians side! 😉
1. Pad Thai
THE MOST FAMOUS IN THAILAND. It’s a calling card to the culinary world & trust us you don’t need an introduction to this in Thailand! You can get infinite number of variations in this one, but the classic-noodles with tofu, bean sprouts, onion & peanuts remain to be the most commonly had! And what’s more? You can add your own final touch of taste in it like chilli powder, crushed peanuts, sugar, fish sauce, etc.
2. Tom Yam
This one is often translated as ‘Thai Sour Soup’ and it’s available almost everywhere in Bangkok! Why try it? Because it is the epitome of the natural aroma of Thailand, thanks to its herb essences!
Must try version of Tom Yam-at Krua Apsorn, it’s a shop house restaurant in the city!
3. Som Tam
Salads form a very important part of the overall menu & here’s one from Thailand that we particularly like to include. It can also be called a raw papaya salad & is a combination of sweet, salty & spicy & sour flavours!
4. Kuay Tiew (Noodle Soup)
Thailand is full of noodles, noodles, noodles; you can’t get enough of any of its varieties! But this one is a special, we say. Again as many of the other Thai dishes famous here, there are different variations of this available with thick & mostly thin type of noodles, which you can choose from.
These are grilled skewers with a filling of meat inside. You can find them at any street hawkers in and around Thailand. What’s best is this is accompanied with a sweet based peanut sauce which gives it a nice twist & makes it #4 on our food checklist.
You can also refer to as ‘Murtabak’ in Malaysia & Indonesia. What are they made up of you ask? Thin sheets of dough stuffed with or a sweet filling cooked until it is made crispy. Need we say more? Go try it in Bangkok!
7. Singha Beer
Did we hear beer? Yes, we did! We’ve heard all your calls of an accompaniment like a beer to get some chilled company with for food while enjoying the windy beaches of Thailand. Try this local & check it on your list!
8. Khao Neow Mamuang
This one is particularly the most interesting one according to us. It is mango sticky rice & who doesn’t love mangoes? Enjoy this unique combination & tell everyone a successful story of a marriage of a fresh fruit & staple food in Thailand.
9. Khanom Buang
Desserts anyone? Yes, while you can’t get enough of Thailand’s awesome local food, here is a dessert to skip your food for! These are crispy Thai pancakes. They are either filled with salty & sweet fillings; whatever your taste buds get excited for & trust us they’re addictive!
10. Chaa Yen Ice cream (Thai Tea Ice Cream)
Tea flavored ice creams are a thing these days, and this one particularly forms a part of this list because of that. A must-try in Thailand to tempt your sweet tooth!
